Community Connection: Giving Back is a RCM Core Value

River City Moving is dedicated to helping grow and sustain the Chattanooga area community. In addition to providing 5 star service to paying customers, RCM also regularly dedicates labor and financial contributions to local nonprofits. Owner, Neil Turner, had community building in mind when starting the company. He chose the Chattanooga area for a number of reasons, but among the top is the fact that there are over 3,000 nonprofits in and around Hamilton County. "Working with, and for, nonprofits is absolutely fundamental to the heart of the company,"Turner said.

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is always looking for volunteers. River City Moving regulary provides volunteer labor to both Chattanooga Food Bank locations, the Foxwood Shop and the Main Warehouse. The Austin Hatcher Foundation was founded by Dr. James and Amy Jo Osborn after losing their son, Austin Hatcher Osborn, to pediatric cancer. Their mission, outlined on their site, is as follows; "The experience of childhood cancer goes beyond diagnosis and affects every individual family member differently. All family members need unique solutions to the challenges they face. During and after treatment, the Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer is here to provide the solutions and walk through every step of a family’s recovery journey. All services are provided at no cost."

Turner said, "We have taken multiple tours and each tour is informative and inspiring. One of the easiest ways to help is to donate something to be auctioned at their fundraising events. It can be as simple as donating a giftcard. Another way to help give to the foundation is by participating in their annual Fun Runs. The community always comes out in large numbers and it is a joyous event."

Two more local nonprofits dear to the RCM team are the Lana's Love Foundation and the Forgotten Child Fund.

Lana's Love Foundation was started by Jim and Cindy Webster after losing their beloved daughter to cancer. The foundation helps children, and their familes, impacted by pediatric cancer to quite simply, have fun. Jim said, "Cindy and I talked many times, as bad as having a child with cancer is, it would be 100 times worse if we did not have some resources. Many people have to make a decision to go to work or to stay at the hospital with their sick child taking chemo. There is no money left for presents or to just have fun. Lana’s Love was created so those kids can have fun." The foundation has one large fundraiser each year, The Lana's Love Foundation Golf Tournament.

The Forgotten Child Fund serves Hamilton County and areas of northern GA and AL. What does the Forgotten Child Foundation Do? The following is is an exerpt from their website. "100% of The Forgotten Child Fund is made up of volunteers.  We consist of Chattanooga Firefighters, Hamilton County EMS employees, Hamilton County Sheriff employees and other volunteer organizations.  100% of all funds donated go directly to our goal of no child will be forgotten on Christmas Day. In addition to delivering Christmas to 10 needy families on Christmas Eve in Hamilton County, we distribute thousands of coats, toboggans, and gloves with our Coats for Kids programs."
